Fallen Angels
The book Fallen Angels written by Walter Dean Myers, is about seventeen year-old Richie Perry, a high school graduated and well known in his home town in Harlem, New York for his skills in basketball. Wanting to be part of something greater and not being able to afford college, he decides to go fight in Vietnam, leaving at home his mother and little brother Kenny who looks up to him. Upon arrival in Vietnam Perry befriends another soldier named Pewee, a soldier with a smart mouth. Together they face the struggles of fighting in Vietnam and reflect on their lives they left back home; along side with them are Lobel, Johnson, and Burnner, all fellow soldiers with different backgrounds but share the same dream, returning home alive.
